At Niagara University, orientation occurs at the start of the Spring (January) and Fall (August) terms. Orientation typically takes place the week before classes begin, and provides students with an opportunity to connect with their peers, familiarize themselves with academic program details, and learn about the support services offered within our community!

Learning Outcomes:


  • To equip students with essential information and resources to make informed academic decisions and promote healthy social behaviours.
  • To foster a welcoming environment that cultivates a strong sense of community among incoming students, facilitating connections with faculty, staff, peers and the broader community.
  • To establish a framework for academic, personal, and professional success throughout their University journey, both within and beyond the classroom setting.

New Student Checklist


  • Activate Your Purple Pass Credentials
  • Register for Orientation
  • Complete Course Registration
  • Visit the Health and Wellness page for details about your Student Benefits Card
  • Update your Contact information in Self Service (Please ensure you have a local number on file).
  • Request Your Student ID Card
  • Visit the Registrar’s Office website to review your Academic Calendar and Important Dates

New International or Newcomer Student Checklist

  • Visit the Newcomer & Family Support page for information on applying for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and opening a Canadian Bank Account

At Niagara University, the new student orientation is mandatory and occurs at the start of the Spring (January) and Fall (August) terms.

Orientation events are free of cost and typically take place the week before classes begin, providing students with an opportunity to connect with their peers, familiarize themselves with academic program details, and learn about the support services offered within our community!

Latecomers are advised to connect with their visit the Orientation page for transitional support.
