One-session course(s)
Candidates will learn and explore the unique characteristics and needs of the primary child and consider how to best engage them in a world impacted by technology and globalization. Candidates will consider how to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment and a classroom culture for learning grounded in culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy. Teaching and learning will focus on evidence based instruction and assessment practices that inform instruction and involve students and parents. Candidates will explore parent engagement, the use of technology, ministry policies e.g. Growing Success, FMNI guidelines, Learning for All, and student health and well-being.
The underlying purpose of the Additional Basic Qualification course is to extend the skills and knowledge for teaching in the junior division and subject-specific junior division program. At least one half of the course concentrates on subject specific content. Successful completion of the course developed from this guideline enables teachers to receive the Additional Basic Qualification: Junior Division.
This course provides learning opportunities for candidates to explore and enhance professional practice, program planning, and leadership within the Intermediate Division. Candidates will extend their professional knowledge, skills and pedagogies within the specific subject matter of health and physical education, and research and discuss the theoretical foundations associated with supporting the adolescent learner. Candidates will strengthen their professional efficacy by gaining in-depth knowledge, refining professional judgment, and generating new knowledge for practice.
