Financial Resiliency: Restarting Business and the Economy in a COVID-19 World

As the province, and country make plans to restart the economy, many businesses small and large, are planning their own re-entry into the market. In addition to re-opening, many are using this as an opportunity to re-evaluate their business models, in order to strategically position themselves in the new order and maximize their financial security. As part of Niagara University’s Speaker Series, Dr. Galina Boiarintseva, will host a virtual panel of distinguished guests representing: The Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Niagara University’s Department of Finance, and local leaders from the Vaughan community who will provide insights into this process.

Steven Karpenko, PMP, MBA
Senior Export Advisor | Business Capacity and Readiness Branch, Business Partnerships and Programs Division | Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade

Steven Karpenko is a seasoned management consultant with deep experience in supply chain viability, business analytics and enterprise scale-up. He has advised C-level executives and private equity sponsors on supply chain strategy and tactics, lean processes and accountability. Through his experience in economic development and commercial banking, Steven developed expertise in management and lean scale-up strategies for the small business sector. Steven is a Certified Management Consultant and International Trade Professional (CITP | FIBP). 

Ed Hutton, CFA, MBA, MS FE
Associate Professor, Niagara University, Director of Niagara University Financial Laboratory 

Professor Hutton has over 25 years of Investment Management experience, including as Equity Analyst, Chase Manhattan Bank; Vice President, Investment Management, M&T Bank and Fund Manager for the Western New York Business Development Fund. He teaches courses in Corporate Finance, Investment Analysis, Fixed Income Investing, Derivative Securities, and Financial Institutions Management. He has served as the President of the CFA Society of Buffalo, and is currently serving as the Society's Education Chair. He is a member of the Financial Management Association.

Jeanne Cheng, CPA, CA, MAcc

Jeanne Cheng is a Tax Partner and Business Advisor with MNP’s Tax Services group in Markham. With more than 15 years of experience in public accounting, Jeanne has worked with clients in various industries, including real estate developers and builders, professionals, technology companies and private investment funds. Her areas of expertise include the taxation of partnerships and trusts, succession and estate planning, financing strategies, dispute resolution with the Canada Revenue Agency and tax considerations for the sale or acquisition of a business.

Loren Shifrin
Revolution Capital and Lovekind Inc. 

Loren has spent most of his professional career growing factoring companies and is now focusing on building a creativity incubator in the hospitality industry. He has successfully established multiple brands and has extensive experience building profitable and diversified portfolios across the country. He has also overseen operations and implemented growth strategies for several companies across multiple industries. Loren is currently the CEO of Revolution Capital and Lovekind Inc.
