After graduating from Lebanese American University with a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Bassel Kassem earned his M.Sc. and PHD in Management Engineering from Politecnico di Milano where he also spent his post-Doc investigating Lean and Industry 4.0 applications in Manufacturing companies.
He worked as an operational excellence consultant for several companies and coached junior scholars on conducting continuous improvement projects.
He moved to Dubai to serve as Assistant Professor in Management at the American University in the Emirates and worked on streamlining policies within the institution as well.
He joined the faculty at NU in 2025 in the Management Department.
His core area of expertise is Operations Management. Currently, Dr. Bassel teaches the MBA courses on decision modeling and analytics, supply chain and international management.
Dr. Bassel is interested in understanding the interaction between Lean Production (LP) and Industry 4.0 (I4.0) in the manufacturing world across the supply chain, with a focus on how firms leverage their unique resources and capabilities to achieve competitive advantage. The research contributes to this discussion by enriching the body of knowledge and demonstrating the “how” at two levels: strategic and tactical.
