Message from the Dean of the Faculty of Education

Dr. Chandra Foote headshotFor more than 150 years, Niagara University has supported professionals in advancing their careers through a wide array of programs on both sides of the border. On the US side of the border, our Lewiston campus offers an array of degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our marquee undergraduate degree is the Bachelors of Arts degree that concurrently trains students in an arts degree and teacher education. Our graduate degrees include Masters degrees in teacher education, school psychology, educational leadership and more. We also have a PhD program in Leadership and Policy which is geared toward professionals in a variety of sectors.

In Ontario, we offer two post-graduate degrees as well as Additional Qualifications courses that are geared toward teachers in Ontario. Our biggest program is the Bachelors of Professional Studies in Teacher Education, which is an Ontario College of Teachers accredited program that leads to teacher certification in Ontario. Upon completion of this program, students are eligible to become certified by OCT and enter the teaching profession. Our other Ontario-based program is the Masters of Science in Education Leadership. This program is designed for teachers and administrators to gain theoretical and practical knowledge that will allow them to transition into an administrative capacity in their schools and boards of education.

We are a relatively small program and you will find that our cohort-based approach makes us a tight knit family. Class sizes are small and professors will know their students by name. That said, upon graduation, Canadian students join thousands of Niagara University alumni who are helping shape the future. Some 6000 Niagara University alumni live in the province of Ontario. It won’t take much to bump into one of us!

We hope you choose to learn with us!

Chandra Foote, PhD
Dean, Faculty of Education
