A greeting letter from Fr. Maher

A Greeting from the President

picture of father Maher, president of NU in ontario

I am excited to serve as the 26th president of Niagara University, a very special place that I have known for almost 40 years.

My brother, the Rev. John Maher, C.M., is a 1976 Niagara graduate, and later worked here on two separate occasions. I was at Niagara University in the mid-1980s as a member of the Vincentian Service Corps, a program where individuals devote one year of service to marginalized populations. Through the program, individuals live simply in community with fellow volunteers, and grow spiritually. As part of the program, I lived on the university’s then-auxiliary campus. And it was during that service at Niagara that I actively discerned my vocation to the priesthood.

My experience as a member of the NU Board of Trustees has provided me with even more insight with regards to the culture of this great university, one that is committed to making a difference in the lives of its students and alumni.

I have also been well prepared for this new role by my 23 years of administrative service at St. John’s University, which, like Niagara, is a Catholic and Vincentian institution.

Niagara University in Ontario is a bright, shining university, illuminated by great faculty and students, committed administrators and staff members who, by their example, make Niagara a special place with wonderful academic programs and a living mission.

In recent years, we have gone to great lengths to provide our students with the best possible environments to learn and study. We have done this through the completion of the most successful capital campaign in our storied history. We have done this by attracting distinguished, proven faculty members who are committed to the holistic, one-on-one approach to education distinguished by service learning that separates Niagara from its peers. We have done this by welcoming academically-gifted men and women into our student-centered learning community.

The faculty, staff and student body are here to assist you in your personal and professional growth and development. I sincerely hope you’ll consider scheduling a visit to our campus so that you can meet the members of the Niagara family. Talk to us. Learn more about our academic curriculum and opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. Explain what you enjoy doing now and what you’d like to do in the future, and we will help you chart your path for success.

Together, we can continue to transform ourselves and Niagara University in Ontario, a special place where you will learn more, experience more and achieve more.

Rev. James J. Maher, C.M.
President
