Niagara University in Ontario is located on the No. 13-Toronto Purchase Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This is the Traditional Territory of the Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee and home to many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people today. Niagara University in Ontario stands in partnership with its Indigenous neighbours in promoting the wise stewardship of the lands, waters and resources that we share here and across Turtle Island.
We hope to inspire our students and future leaders to be gracious and respectful of these resources and to honour all people who are First Nations, Métis and Inuit.
Miigwech to Mr. Robert Cutting, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and in particular, Mr. Darin P. Wybenga, Traditional Knowledge and Land Use Coordinator, Department of Consultation and Accommodation (DOCA) for their insights, guidance, and contributions to this Land Acknowledgement.
